How to Regrip Your Clubs

Regripping your clubs is easier than you think.
Follow our simple step-by-step guide on how to install your grips and refresh your game at home.

Step 1 Remove the old grip

Using the hook blade tool, make a slice all the way down the old grip. Then, peel off the grip fully from the club shaft.

Step 2 Remove The Old Tape From The Shaft

Take off all the old tape from the shaft. Using a heat gun or hair dryer will make the tape easier to peel off but is not necessary for this step.

If there isn’t any old tape on the shaft, give it a good wipe with a damp towel to make sure it’s completely clean.

Step 3 Secure the club

Stabilize your club to begin regripping. If you do not have a vise like in the photo, you can use your feet to brace the club to help you stabilize it.

Step 4 Measure the tape

Unroll the grip tape and measure it against the new grip. The tape length should be an inch longer than the grip. Once you’ve measured it, cut the tape to apply it to the shaft.

Step 5 Apply the tape

Place the tape on the shaft of the club. Be sure to leave an inch of tape off the end of the shaft. Once applied, smooth out any bumps and twist the excess tape and push it into the end of the shaft.

If you prefer a larger feel to your grip, this is where you can add extra layers of tape.

Step 6 Pour Solvent into Grip

Place your finger over the hole of the cap end and pour solvent into it. You want a good coating of solvent inside the grip, so it can slide onto the shaft easier.

We recommend placing the grip over a bucket for this step to catch the solvent.

Step 7 Pour the solvent over the tape

Pour solvent on the tape. Make sure the tape is covered fully with solvent.

Step 8 Slide grip on

Using one fluid motion, slide the grip onto the shaft. If you prefer the logo facing down, rotate the grip 180 degrees before sliding it onto the shaft.

To ensure your grip is straight, you can look at the logo or the tick marks on the end cap and mouth of the grip.

Tip: Use a towel to cover the cap end when you’re sliding the grip on, because solvent can spray out of it.

Step 9 Clean off grip and give it a tap

Using a towel, give the grip a good wipe down to make sure there is no solvent left on it. After it is cleaned, firmly tap the cap end of the grip on the ground. This ensures that the grip is fully on the shaft.

Step 10 Last look

Give your grip one last look to make sure it is straight. Most of our grips have tick marks at the mouth and cap end of the grip to help you visually check the straightness.

Lastly, place your club somewhere where it can dry. We recommend drying for at least four hours before you go out and play.
